  1. WHAT IS PROFESSIONAL?
  • Professional is a broad term or wide term that really hard to explain or express..But there are still points that to be considered in order to define this term.
  • Professional define as follows:
  1. a member of a vocation founded upon specialized educational training.
  2. a person who has obtained a professional level degree.
  3. used more generally to denote a white collar working person, or a person who performs commercially in a field typically reserved for hobbyists or amateurs.
  4. In United States, the term Professional, commonly describes highly educated, mostly salaried workers, who enjoy considerable work autonomy, economic security, a comfortable salary, and are commonly engaged in creative and intellectually challenging work.. Less technically, it may also refer to a person having impressive competence in a particular activity.
  5. engaged in one of the learned professions or characterized by or conforming to the technical or ethical standards of a profession or exhibiting a courteous, conscientious, and generally businesslike manner in the workplace or participating for gain or livelihood in an activity or field of endeavor often engaged in by amateurs or having a particular profession as a permanent career. It is also means engaged in by persons receiving financial return or following a line of conduct as though it were a profession .
  6. pertaining to a profession, or calling; conforming to the rules or standards of a profession; following a profession; as, professional knowledge; professional conduct. "Pride, not personal, but professional."

  15. Reasonable work moral and motivation.
  16. Having interest and desire to do a job well as well as holding positive attitude towards the profession are important elements in attaining a high level of professionalism

2. WHEN CAN YOU SAY A PERSON IS A PROFESSIONAL OR UNPROFESSIONAL?

  • A PROFESSIONAL person who has obtained a professional level degree or characteristic of a profession or conforming to the technical or ethical standards of a profession. He or She also exhibiting a courteous, conscientious, and generally businesslike manner in the workplace or in public or following a line of conduct as though it were a profession, and participating for gain or livelihood in an activity or field of endeavor often engaged in by amateurs. A person of having or showing great skill; expert; with a good or mateur conduct or behavior or characteristics towards others. It is also A person who prosecutes anything professionally, or for a livelihood, and not in the character of an amateur. As MACAULAY DE QUICEY says "Pride, not personal, but professional."
  • UNPROFESSIONAL person is an amatuer person. Even though some of them were high educated or graduated or obtained a professional level degree but no characteristis of a profession he or she has achieve. They are also called as rank amateur. In short, they never follow or eternalized or adapt or absorb the teaching from the school for many years or the profession they are taking especially the proper behavior or conduct as a professional or what we call, the code of ethics as a professional.
  • The bottom line of this is that, A professional does something as a profession, or receives payment for some activity. But this is not the point. The point is "professional" can indicate that someone has great skill in a craft or activity, or that something demonstrates such skill. To conduct oneself as a professional (exhibiting "professional behavior") would indicate that the person's actions remain in accordance with specific rules, written or unwritten, pertaining to the standards of a profession. The opposite of "professional" is "amateur" (disparagingly: "rank amateur").
  • For Example: Many people are entertained by watching sport and are willing to pay to watch. This allows some contestants to make a living as professionals by getting paid to play professional sports. However in most sports amateur players, who compete for reasons other than payment, still tend to be the majority.
  • In many cases someone can perform the exact same craft or task, and the only difference between a professional and an amateur consists in the payment of the one but not the other. In many areas a person must overcome a barrier before gaining recognition as a professional. Such barriers include academic degrees, certifications, or licenses. Professions with such barriers include those of accountants, architects, doctors, engineers, lawyers, librarians, nurses, social workers, teachers and etc. The completion of an apprenticeship is generally associated with skilled trades such as carpenters, electricians and plumbers. Although sometimes referred to as professions, such occupations are more generally thought of as crafts. Compare the usage of "occupation", which does not imply the exclusivity and special nature of the "professional"
